Presently, Selacine Television Institute is the government owned, sole advertising agency under the Ministry ofInformation & Communication Technology. Covering all in advertising industry, from the field ofprinting to advertising programsand commercials over international T.V. channels, Selacine is now on the verge of a triumphant path offering their services to both private and state sectors.

When dealing with Selacineon any matter regarding promotion, state institutions receives the added benefit of being exempt from the usual government supply process.

History of Selacine

Selacine Television Institution was established on the 2nd of February 1982 under the Ministry of Plan Implementation as the first establishment to produce programs needed by the television industry.

The founder of Selacine Institution is Dr. Wickrama Weerasooriya. The primary purpose of the institution was to educate the public regarding the “Accelerated Mahaveli Development Programme”. Manpower and financial resources needed for this publicity programme were provided by the State Timber Corporation under the Ministry of Lands, Irrigation and Mahaveli Development. Under special gazette notification of 1988, adverting work of the “Janasaviya” Programme launched under the Ministry of Policy and Plan Implementation was also taken over by Selacine. In 1994, Selacine was taken under the purview of the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and Rural Development and later in 1999, came under the jurisdiction of Post, Telecommunication and Mass Media. From 2001, Selacine has been turned over to the Ministry of Mass Media and Information. The pride of Selacine is embodied by the pioneers who contributed to this glorious journey.
